Meru Oak

Meru Oak is a deciduous tree found only in Kenya. It's capable of growing to a height of 35m and only takes 2-3 years to reach maturity. It occurs naturally in lower and upper montane forests and on thicked rocky hills. It's very thin with a rough back and hairy stems, petioles, and veins.

Wood from Meru oak is hard, durable and resembles teak, and is commonly used to make furniture and decorative veneers. its heartwood is orange-brown to a golden brown, becoming red-brown upon prolonged exposure to outside elements. Owing to its highly valued timber and over-exploitation, the species is now very rare.
